Description
● An electromagnet can be defined as a magnet which functions on electricity.
● Comprises of a U-shaped iron core of circular section with a hanging hook. Both arms are wound with enamelled copper wire and are connected in series. A plastic bar mounted on the U-iron has terminals fixed for connecting to a 4 to 6V DC source.
● On passing an DC electric current, a magnetic field is induced which shows magnetic properties by attracting the load hook.
