Description
● Uses a moving belt to collect charge on a hollow metal structure made in the shape of a globe. It helps generate a very high electric potential of few million volts.
● Comprises of spherical globe supported on top of a clear insulated perspex pillar that rests on a base. A flat belt rotates through rollers mounted at both ends of the perspex pillar. The larger pulley hand drives the smaller pulley on the perspex pillar by a rubber belt.
● The continuous rotation of the hand crank produces a charge that accumulates on the globe till the break-down of air surrounding the globe occurs. Bringing an earthed discharge globe sufficiently close to the globe with the accumulated charge results in electric spark.
