Description
● Used for the measurement of electric current. It works by using a compass needle to compare a magnetic field generated by the unknown current to the magnetic field of the Earth.
● It consists of a circular coil of wire wound over a non-magnetic frame. The vertical frame is mounted on a horizontal circular turn table provided with three levelling screws. A magnetometer is supported at the centre of the coil enabling its needle to experience a uniform magnetic field from the current in the coil.
● The coil consists of three sections of 2, 50 and 500 turns, which are of different thickness, used for measuring currents of different strengths. The rotatable turn table has four 4mm terminals with three of the terminals indicating the no. of coils.
